FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WIIKWEMKOONG – July 11, 2026 –  Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) and Manitoulin-Sudbury District Paramedic Services responded to a report of a stabbing involving a 20-year-old female on the morning of July 10, 2026.

The victim was transported to hospital, treated for injuries and later released.

As part of the investigation officers executed a search warrant at a residence.  Two individuals who were wanted on unrelated warrants were located and arrested.

The individual in the stabbing incident was arrested a short time later.  At the time of the occurrence, the accused was before the courts on several violent-crime charges and was subject to a release order requiring her to remain under house arrest.

A 19-year-old female from Wiikwemkoong has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Obstruct Police
  • Failure to Comply with a Release Order – two counts

“Violent crime continues to have a significant impact on our community. It is concerning when individuals facing serious criminal charges are alleged to commit further offences while subject to court-ordered conditions,” said Chief of Police Ron Gignac. “Our officers will continue to identify, arrest and bring offenders before the courts, with the safety of victims and the community remaining our highest priority.”
