Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service officers, carry naloxone and we want to assist. The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act provides broad legal protections for anyone seeking emergency support during a drug poisoning, including the person experiencing the poisoning. This means citizens, including youth, will not be charged for offences such as simple possession for calling 9-1-1 in an emergency.
Carry Naloxone
Naloxone can temporarily reverse an opioid poisoning. It is available free-of-charge at many locations on the island including our health centre.
Never Use Alone
Don’t use drugs alone, and don’t let those around you use alone either. If you are using with someone else, don’t use at the same time. If a drug poisoning occurs, having another person nearby can save your life.
If you must use alone, we encourage you to contact the National Overdose Response Service (NORS). NORS is a virtual safe consumption site available for all Canadians, 24/7, 365 days a year.
It is 100% confidential, anonymous and judgement free. Their only priority is to keep you safe while you use drugs. NORS can be reached by calling or texting 1-888-688-6677. A NORS operator will stay on the line with the person while the drug is used.
In the event the person becomes unresponsive, NORS will call 9-1-1 to ensure help arrives. Learn more at the NORS website.
