The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Services Board is seeking expressions of interest from community members to serve as a police services board member from 2027-2029. The Police services board is seeking 3 community members for this vital public safety role for the community in moving forward.
As a police services board member, you will have a scheduled meeting at least four times a year. Currently the board meets once every two months and are often called upon for additional duties and responsibilities throughout weekdays, some evenings, and some travel away from the Territory.
The police service is moving swiftly in employing the new staffing and deployment model and implementing several new community safety programs to enhance public safety. Interested candidates should have knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of a police services board member, the duties and responsibilities of a police service, and how the police services board acts independently from Band Council. It is encouraged for interested candidates to familiarize themselves with the police services website and superlative and dynamic nature of First Nations Policing.
In the context of policing in Ontario, police services boards are intended to be independent of political edicts/interference, acting as the intermediary between band council and the police service to ensure non-partisan, objective, decision making. Police services board composition consists of 5 territorial community members, with the President of the Police Services board appointed to lead the board.
