FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WIIKWEMKOONG, ON –  June 23, 2026 –  In the late afternoon of June 18, 2026, members of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) conducted a traffic stop on Wikwemikong Way and identified the driver as being under suspension. The investigation led to the seizure of drugs and cash.

As a result, 52-year-old Stephanie TRUDEAU of Wiikwemkoong was arrested.  Police seized approximately $8,300 worth of crack cocaine and cocaine, along with more than $4,000 in Canadian currency.

“This arrest highlights the ongoing challenges our officers are facing, as they continue to identify offenders, lay charges, and remove dangerous drugs from our community,” said Ron Gignac, Chief of Police, WTPS. “While we remain committed to enhancing public safety, we rely on our community, the justice system, and agency partners to work together in a unified approach to reduce illicit drug use, support those in need of intervention, and assist individuals in their recovery from addiction and trauma. Ogimaa Ominika and Council are to be applauded for their steadfast support in these efforts to enhance public safety.”

TRUDEAU has been charged with the following offences:

·         Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x2

·         Fail to Comply with Release Order x4

·         Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

·         Drive While Under Suspension

TRUDEAU had previously been released from custody on drug-related charges and was subject to a Community Supervision Order.  She also remains before the courts on drug-related matters in Wiikwemkoong.  TRUDEAU was held pending a bail hearing.
