Family Information and Liaison Unit FILU- Government of Ontario: Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service Working with FILU and OPP on MMIP Investigations

WIIKWEMKOONG – June 5, 2025The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) is pleased to announce it’s been actively working in partnership with the Family Information and Liaison Unit (FILU) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Indigenous Policing Bureau on ongoing investigations related to Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP). This collaboration has been ongoing since 2024 and continues to support our efforts in both current and historical cases.

The FILU, a Government of Ontario program, was made permanent in May 2023 and has an expanded mandate to support all families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, including women, girls, and Indigenous men and boys.

FILU staff work directly with police services, families, and government agencies across the province to assist families in accessing clear, reliable, and complete information about their loved ones. Their role as a liaison allows WTPS investigators to remain focused on active casework while ensuring families receive the respectful and thorough communication they deserve from the FILU.

WTPS recognizes the importance of building trust, transparency, and support for the families in our community. Our continued partnership with FILU and the OPP reflects our shared commitment to justice, healing, and accountability.

If you or someone you know is seeking support or information related to a Missing or Murdered Indigenous person, please contact the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service or the Family Information and Liaison Unit directly.
