FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WIIKWEMKOONG – JULY 23, 2025 – The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) is pleased to officially welcome Police Constable Reed Blacker, who joined the Service last month and brings a wealth of frontline experience to the community.

“I’m honoured to be part of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service and look forward to building strong, meaningful relationships within the community,” said Police Constable Reed Blacker. “Wiikwemkoong made a lasting impression on me early in my career, and I feel proud to serve in a place where connection, trust and community safety are at the heart of the work.”

Born and raised in North Bay, Police Constable Blacker developed a strong interest in policing from an early age, inspired by family influences and a passion for public service. He earned a Criminal Justice degree with honours and a Sociology minor from Nipissing University, complementing his studies with practical experience through a field placement with the Ontario Provincial Police and several years as a 911 dispatcher.

After beginning his policing career with the Peterborough Police Service, Police Constable Blacker sought an opportunity to serve in a more community-focused environment. His previous experience dispatching calls to Wiikwemkoong left a lasting impression, and when the opportunity to join the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service arose, he welcomed it as a meaningful next step.

“We are blessed to have such a fine police officer join us in serving our community,” said Ron Gignac, Chief of Police. “Reed is deeply committed to our vision and brings a genuine desire to build strong relationships with community members and organizations. I’m also grateful for the continued support from Chief Tim Ominika, our Band Council, and community leaders, as well as our excellent partnerships with UCCM Anishnaabe Police, the RCMP and the OPP — all of which help create a strong foundation for officers like Reed to thrive.”

Police Constable Blacker is already actively engaging with members of the community and contributing to the continued success of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service’s community policing model.
