Community Urged to Stay Vigilant and Prepared

WIIKWEMKOONG – AUGUST 12, 2025 – Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) is alerting residents to a surge in drug poisonings (overdoses) across the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts, as reported by Public Health Sudbury & Districts. While the cause of the spike remains uncertain, authorities warn that substances may be contaminated or mixed with harmful agents.

“Our officers are fully committed to protecting the community and stopping the flow of dangerous drugs,” said Chief Ron Gignac of Wikwemikong Tribal Police Services. “We are working tirelessly to identify and disrupt drug trafficking operations, and we will continue to hold offenders accountable. The safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority.”

WTPS encourages all community members to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. If you see something, say something. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers or via the WTPS online reporting system at wtps.ca.

WTPS continues to collaborate with health organizations and local partners to address the ongoing crisis. Community support and awareness are vital tools in reducing harm and saving lives.
