FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WIIKWEMKOONG – AUGUST 6, 2025 – The Anishinabek Nation 7th Generation Charity has announced that Sgt. Darrell Mandamin of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service will be honoured with the Anishinabek Lifetime Achievement Award later this month.
Sergeant Mandamin, who began his policing career in 1991, is being recognized for more than three decades of dedicated service to public safety and community well-being in First Nations communities.
“Sergeant Darrell Mandamin represents the very best of what it means to serve and protect,” said Chief Gignac. “His unwavering dedication over 34 years, his courage in the face of danger, and his commitment to mentoring the next generation of officers have left a lasting impact on our police service and our community. Darrell’s leadership and integrity are a source of pride for the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, and we are honoured to see him recognized with the Anishinabek Lifetime Achievement Award.”
He will be presented with the award during the Anishinabek Evening of Excellence on Aug. 28 in Rama, Ont. He will be joined by Wikwemikong Police Chief Ron Gignac and Inspector Tammy Duffy at the ceremony.
Now in his 34th year of service, Sergeant Mandamin commands a platoon of officers and is known for his leadership, mentorship and operational excellence. His work has included RIDE checks, emergency response, search warrant execution and patrol duties, often during the overnight hours. He has also worked as an expert criminal investigator on our crime unit.
In July 2024, Sergeant Mandamin and Const. DiSalvo were credited with saving a family from a burning residence, risking their own lives in the process, a heroic act that highlighted Sgt. Mandamin’s bravery and commitment to his community.
Sergeant Mandamin is also recognized for his role as a mentor to new Indigenous police recruits. His efforts have helped train and guide future officers with a focus on integrity, respect and service.
The Anishinabek Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated lifelong leadership, service and dedication to improving quality of life in Anishinabek Nation communities.
Miigwech, Sergeant Mandamin, for your unwavering commitment, your courage, and your leadership. You are a guiding light in our Nation’s journey forward.
