Following the December 2024 launch of our first-of-its-kind staffing and deployment model, the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) has taken additional steps to ensure that our organizational structure continues to evolve alongside the needs of the community.
Over the past six months, WTPS has further refined its Service Delivery Model to better reflect the realities of our community and to support sustainable growth through 2028 and beyond. This work builds directly on the foundational model introduced last year, which marked a major departure from our 2007 framework and set a new standard for First Nations policing in Ontario.
As we move forward:
- WTPS has updated its organizational chart to align with enhanced service delivery goals, creating specialized roles and support systems that bolster public safety and community well-being.
- We are actively hiring against this new structure, welcoming both new officers and civilian professionals into positions tailored to emerging areas of focus — from crisis response and youth engagement to traffic safety, digital investigations, and drug enforcement.
- The refined model emphasizes operational capacity, strategic growth, and community integration, ensuring that WTPS remains both responsive and resilient.
This ongoing work reflects our commitment to transparency and proactive communication. By sharing these updates with the public, we aim to reinforce trust and show how every step we take is rooted in the goal of keeping Wiikwemkoong a safe and thriving community.
We thank our community and partners for their continued support as we build a police service that reflects the strength, diversity, and future aspirations of Wiikwemkoong.
